Movie Review: Battleship

Assignments has been sucking the life out of me... but now that I finally submitted my assignments, IT'S FREEDOM!!! To celebrate this beautiful day, I went to watch movie, Battleship.

I wasn't even aware what this movie was all about. My friends really wanted to watch this so I just went with their decisions. By this time, I pretty much don't care whatever movie I watch (it's seriously been a long time). Due to some tardiness and tiny problem, we missed the first few minutes of the movie.

Two words to describe this movie: EPICLY AWESOME!!! XD

I shall gather my thoughts and feelings right from the beginning till the end. So, first we are shown to the Hopper brothers, where the main character, Alex, is shown to be a pretty hopeless fool. I mean, he tried to impress a girl by breaking into a convenience store, tasered by the police and crawled all the way towards the girl, just for a chicken burrito. Gotta say though, he succeeded impressing the girl because fast forward to few years later, he's with the girl, fretting on how to ask her father for her hand in marriage. He was also in the navy, though still somewhat a fool. He gets too easily offended, where he tends to follow his feelings rather than logical reasons.

And then, there's the scene where the aliens finally arrived, killing and destroying many people and infrastructures they deemed threatening. I thought we would never ever see the aliens' looks until the very end. Well, it wasn't that much of a big deal, apparently, when they uncover how it looked like. The only significance is their eyes, which can't take in too much sunlight. That's why they wore those helmets which acted as some sort of super sunglasses.

I actually thought the fight scenes between the alien ships and the navy ships were pretty awesome. Sound effects were effectively used and put, CG was quite okay too. The dialogue they have in the movie was somewhat funny, especially when it concerns about Hopper. There's not much character development, the only character development we had was when Hopper's brother, Stone, died and Alex became the captain of one of the ships. He was reckless at first, ordering his crew to shoot at the alien ship without considering the consequences. The other surviving navy ship was the Japanese, headed by Captain Nagata, was hit by the alien ship and after being shouted by one of his crew members that there are survivors in the water, Alex finally came to his senses and instead, ordered his crew members to save the survivors. It had been said by several key people that Alex has the potential, but he tends to waste it. After he calmed down, the truth had finally sunk. He is the new captain and will be responsible for any decisions he made. I guess this can be considered as significant character development.

Actually, I was surprised to see Rihanna in this movie. I didn't know she acted in a film. ._. Guess I need to update my entertainment world news... For a rookie (I think o.O I'm not quite sure), her acting was okay.

I would rate this movie an 9 out of 10. It's an awesome movie! :D
